In Pilates the exercises require control and precision, focusing on the quality for movement not quantity, emphasizing flowing movements that require the  use of multiple muscle groups simultaneously.  Controlled movements and concentration are essential, making Pilates a workout for the body and the mind.  The repertoire of Pilates exercises is designed to tone, elongate, and strengthen muscles, while improving body awareness and posture, and relieving stress.  This balance between strength and flexibility reduces the potential for injury.
